About Torre de Oña Finca Martelo

Torre de Oña Finca Martelo is a red reserve wine made with Garnacha Tinta, Tempranillo, Mazuela and Viura (Macabeo) varieties in the D.O.Ca. Rioja by the Torre de Oña winery.

Located in the town of Páganos, in the prestigious Rioja Alavesa region, the Torre de Oña winery dates back to 1985. However, since 1995 it has been run by La Rioja Alta, a group that is committed to combining tradition and modernity and that produces wines in Rioja, Ribera de Duero and Rías Baixas. In 2016, the winery modernised their facilities, including the addition of a new, sophisticated optical grape sorter that works according to the winemaker’s needs, and a new transport system that means grapes reach the winery as in-tact as possible.

Of the 44 hectares owned by Torre de OñaTorre de Oña Finca Martelo's grapes come from three selected plots. Strains over 60 years of age planted in shallow and barely fertile soils that depend entirely on the year’s weather conditions. That is why this wine is only made in vintages that are rated as very good or excellent. The grapes are collected in 20 kg boxes.

In the winery the Torre de Oña Finca Martelo grape sits in cold stores until it reaches 4ºC. It is destemmed, pressed and then macerated for 9 days at a temperature below 10ºC. After alcoholic fermentation has finished, malolactic fermentation takes place over 96 days in French and American oak barrels with weekly batonnage. It ages for 24 months in American (80%) and French (20%) oak barrels.
