About Martín Códax OW

Albariño wines are much loved for their fresh character and their ability to reflect the characteristics of the terroir they grow in. A specialty of the Rías Baixas region in Galicia, they are an excellent choice for those looking for lively white wines with personality. One of the wineries that has complete mastery of this native variety is Martín Códax. This winery was founded in 1986 in Cambados, a coastal town in the Rías Baixas region, whose name is a tribute to a 13th century Galician troubadour, known for his cantigas (poetic and lyrical compositions that often celebrated the love and beauty of the region). Such is his mastery of this grape that he has even dared experiment with an orange wine, a type of wine made using ancient methods originating in the Caucasus regions that dates back thousands of years.

In fact, although these practices are more than 6,000 years old, they have recently re-emerged as a distinctive wine style. Martín Códax OW is a wine that ferments with its skins for 6 months in concrete tanks. It is through this maceration that the wine takes on an orange hue and a very special complexity of aromas and flavours.

With a more robust body, greater concentration of flavour and a more solid structure, Martín Códax OW is an Albariño with the character of a red. A unique original orange wine from Rías Baixas.

2021

Martín Códax OW is a complex orange wine with aromas of ripe orange fruit, notes of crushed flowers and hints of minerals. On the palate it is broad, structured and tannic. A medium-bodied wine with some astringency and a very special saline background.
2020 Martín Códax OW 2020 is an Albariño with the soul of a red wine. A beautiful amber-coloured orange wine with a nose that presents aromas of ripe oranges accompanied by floral and vegetal notes. The palate is broad, dry and fresh, with marked tannins and good structure. A complex and very gastronomic orange wine.
