Mas Coutelou En Commun 2021 is a smooth, bright, purple-coloured red with pinkish tinges. The nose is intense and complex, with floral notes mingling with cherries, white fruits and spices (white pepper). The palate maintains this fruity character, with a fresh and vibrant profile and soft tannins. Tasty acidity and well balanced. Long and spicy finish.

About Mas Coutelou En Commun

Frost and hail in the vineyard cannot be ignored. Someone who knows that well is Jeff Coutelau who lost part of his harvest for this very reason. Thank goodness for Vivien Hemelsdael, winemaker at the well-known Clos de Jarres, who gave some of her harvest that year so he could still make wine. As the saying goes, “when one door closes, another one opens” and that is how Mas Coutelou En Commun was born, a red wine aged in concrete and fibreglass tanks.

All of that said, Jeff Coutelou never ceases to impress us. From his village of Puimissión (in the south of France) this vigneron continues to excel year after year, with complex, fine and elegant wines that are always organic and natural. As the years pass by, no matter what happens, chemical-free cultivation and production is an unchanging constant. His 13 hectares of vineyards have been free of sulphites and other products used in conventional cultivation since the 1990s.

This is how Jeff Coutelou achieves the purest coupage of Syrah, Cinsault and Cariñena (the latter is very well managed and understood by him). With this red, Jeff Coutelou proves his genius once again. He is one of those vignerons brimming with personality who always manages to surprise us and make each wine a spectacle.
