About Mendall BB

Becoming a trailblazer requires more than mere boldness; it necessitates unwavering commitment, a fervent passion, and steadfast conviction. In the realm of winemaking, challenging established norms demands the courage to navigate the inevitable hurdles that arise. Figures such as Marcel Lapierre in Beaujolais, Nicolas Joly in the Loire Valley, or Josko Gravner in Friuli have been visionaries in advocating for environmentally conscious practices and the crafting of wines that embody authenticity and terroir. In their footsteps, Laureano Serres Montagut epitomizes natural wine in the town of El Pinell de Brai, within the Terra Alta region of Catalonia. He is a zealous proponent of minimal intervention, as perfectly demonstrated in a collection of wines under the name Mendall (the name that his mother's house bore).

Thus, he introduces Mendall BB, a monovarietal wine made from the white Grenache grape, commonly known in southern Catalonia as "Vernatxa Blanca." Instead of using the initials VB to refer to this variety, Laureano opts for the abbreviation BB. Young vines planted in clay-limestone soil at an altitude of 512 meters above sea level are cultivated according to ecological and biodynamic principles. Subsequently, in the winery, the vinification process involves minimal intervention. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts takes place in stainless steel tanks, and the wine is then left to age on lees for 7 months before bottling, without clarification, filtration, or the addition of sulfites.

As a bold viticulturist and a true pioneer in the world of natural wine in Catalonia, Mendall BB is the fruit of a daring vision and an unyielding passion for oenological excellence. A creamy and aromatic white monovarietal, it is a pure delight of natural wine.
