About Mendall Terme de Guiu

Wine fairs abound, yet one of our cherished favourites is H2O Vegetal, a singular gathering that assembles natural wine producers in the quaint village of Pinell del Blai, within the Terra Alta region of Catalonia. The masterminds behind this event are Joan Ramón Escoda and Laureano Serres Montagut, vanguards of minimal intervention. It's a celebration with natural producers who are committed to conveying the essence and soul of their terroir, with absolute transparency. And what finer opportunity to directly explore the offerings of your hosts! For Laureano himself, it presents an excellent chance to sample the wines he crafts within this very municipality. His creations, released under his mother's homestead name Mendall, epitomize authenticity.

From his Terme de Guiu plot, he introduces Mendall Terme de Guiu, a red wine primarily composed of Cariñena with a small percentage of Macabeo and other native varietals interspersed within the vineyard. The vines, averaging 50 years old, are rooted in clay-limestone soils at an elevation of 470 meters above sea level. The vineyard is tended organically, following biodynamic principles and always catering to the plant's needs. In the cellar, minimal intervention vinification is practiced. To this end, the selected grapes ferment for 15 days in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts, after which the wine is aged in the same tanks for seven months. It is bottled unfiltered, unfined, and without the addition of sulfites.

Transforming the small town of Pinell de Blai into the epicentre of the natural wine universe, wines like Mendall Terme de Guiu stand as a testament. A juicy, vibrant, and thrilling red wine that perfectly embodies the character and style of one of today's most esteemed minimal intervention wine fairs.
