About Mestres Clos Damiana Brut Nature Gran Reserva

From start to finish. Patience is a hallmark, a defining characteristic of Mestres, the Catalonian sparkling wine producers in the D.O. Cava, renowned for the extended ageing periods of their bottles.

In the heart of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, right in the town's main square, the historic cellars of this company carefully preserve the maturation of their wines: from the mandatory minimum of 42 months to several years of ageing for Mestres Clos Damiana Brut Nature Gran Reserva. How many events can unfold over all those months? How much can life change in that time? Whatever twist fate may bring, there is nothing that cannot be endured with a glass of this sparkling wine, which undergoes two fermentations (first in barrel and then in bottle) and is only crafted in the finest vintages.

Mestres Clos Damiana Brut Nature Gran Reserva originates from the vineyard of the same name. Generally, these are old vines, over 50 years old, cultivated at an altitude of between 200 and 225 metres. Throughout the entire Mestres estate, one can observe a great diversity of soils, which intermingle and blend across all its hectares. Here, the climate is Mediterranean, with rainy winters and autumns and very dry summers.

Mestres Clos Damiana Brut Nature Gran Reserva is harvested and taken to the winery where the grapes are processed and pressed for fermentation. At Mestres, this initial process is conducted in chestnut barrels, where Mestres Clos Damiana Brut Nature Gran Reserva will remain for about 12 months. From here, the wine is bottled, sealed with a natural cork stopper, and left to rest in the bottle for several years. During this time, where there is room for everything, Mestres Clos Damiana Brut Nature Gran Reserva undergoes its second fermentation in the bottle. Here, the riddling process, with the bottles in a horizontal position (known as ‘rima’), will be crucial in achieving body and structure.

Once time has passed, Mestres Clos Damiana Brut Nature Gran Reserva is disgorged manually, in the most traditional manner, and released for sale. If time could be savoured, it would undoubtedly be in a bottle of Mestres Clos Damiana Brut Nature Gran Reserva.

2009

Mestres Clos Damiana Brut Nature Gran Reserva 2009 is a dry sparkling wine (with less than 3 g/l of residual sugar), which demands a leisurely and thorough tasting experience. It is, in essence, a complex effervescent wine, brimming with subtleties that gradually unveil themselves as it breathes in the glass. Initially, it presents a radiant golden hue, complemented by exceedingly delicate bubbles that are barely perceptible, yet provide a refined and pleasant sensation on the palate. The olfactory journey continues with aromatic layers of patisserie, cocoa, dried fruits, raisins, and fig bread. On the palate, it is creamy and sophisticated, with hints of brioche, roasted nuances, and subtle milky undertones. The finish is extensive and lingering.

2007

Mestres Clos Damiana 2007 is a dry sparkling wine (containing less than 3 g/l of sugar), mature, with a radiant golden hue. Exceptionally expressive, the bouquet is intricate, featuring a symphony of scents ranging from yeast and bakery notes to beeswax, honey, apple, and ripe stone fruits (peach, apricot). On the palate, it is seamless and refined, with hints of nuts (walnuts, almonds), wood, a creamy texture, and subtle mineral undertones. The finish is slightly bitter, accompanied by tiny, delicate bubbles that are almost imperceptible.
