Mirando al Sur is an organic white wine made by Olivier Rivière with the Viura variety in the D.O.Ca. Rioja (La Rioja).
Olivier Rivière is an intrepid French winemaker who has worked side by side with important figures in the world of wine like Telmo Rodríguez, Elian da Ros and Fréderic Cossard. In 2006 he began his most personal project in La Rioja, a wine-growing region which, because of its old vines and altitude, is perfect for making the wines he wants. In 2012 he was joined by Antoine Habera.
Mirando al Sur comes from his own vineyards cultivated using organic principles in the village of Labastida. These are old vines aged over 50 years old and planted in gravel and pebble soils at more than 500 metres above sea level. Treatments are carried out only when strictly necessary and are made using biological products.
Once harvested, the Mirando al Sur grapes are fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks where it rests on its lees for 12 months. It then ages for 18 months in sherry casks.
Mirando al Sur is a very original wine influenced by Olivier’s love for sherry wines. An original, complex and surprising white wine.
