About Nicolas Potel Borgoña Chardonnay Vieilles Vignes

Burgundy is world famous for its red wines. However, this area, in northeastern France, is also a land of great white wines like Nicolas Potel Burgundy Chardonnay Vieilles Vignes.

Nicolas Potel Burgundy Chardonnay Vieilles Vignes is a single-variety Chardonnay made by Maison Nicolas Potel. This company, founded in 1997 by Nicolas Potel is dedicated solely to making great wines from grapes bought from local vignerons. These people, who have been commonly used in France for years, are known as négociants, and are key figures in this country’s wine culture. Nicolás Potel is someone who knew exactly what he was doing. At home, his father, winemaker Gérard Potel, had taught him well. No doubt about that. There was one golden rule that could never be missing from his wines: they must reflect the essence and soul of Burgundy’s soils.

This task, which can be simple, becomes more complicated in Burgundy, where there is a great variety of zones and soils. When it comes to Chardonnay, there are four zones: Chablis, Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonanaise and Mâconnais. The limestone soils of all these areas are perfect for this variety, which is widespread throughout the world, but which really reveals its aromatic complexity in these areas.

The production of Nicolas Potel Burgundy Chardonnay Vieilles Vignes begins in the vineyard itself, where the best clusters are selected. From here, the grapes go directly to the press to produce the must (which will be left to rest at low temperatures for 24 hours). Once cleaned, Nicolas Potel Burgundy Chardonnay Vieilles Vignes is transferred to stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation (using selected yeasts). After this process, where the temperature is controlled, some of Nicolas Potel Burgundy Chardonnay Vieilles Vignes remains in the tanks, while another approximately 20% is transferred to barrels for aging.

2021

Nicolas Potel Burgundy Chardonnay Vieilles Vignes 2021 is a creamy, light-coloured white with golden hues. The nose is intense and complex, with citrus (apple), floral and dried fruit notes. The palate is very pure and tense, with fresh and mineral touches that blend beautifully with its fruity character. Sweet and very smooth.
