About Nivarius Edición Limitada

Although white wines have yet to achieve the same renown as reds in Rioja, there are wineries that are pouring their heart and soul into changing this narrative. Indeed, Rioja also speaks in white... and it does so with increasing vigour.

A prime example is Nivarius Edición Limitada, a wine that proves elegance and character are not the sole preserve of reds. Esteemed critic Tim Atkin acknowledges this, describing it as:
 "A superb blend of whites from high-altitude vineyards in Rioja. It's wonderful to see how these types of wines are gaining momentum."

What makes this wine special? To begin with, its origin: high-altitude vineyards of viura and maturana blanca with predominantly clay-limestone soils, complemented by touches of clay-iron and sedimentary sands. This combination imparts structure, freshness, and an impressive ageing potential.

The harvest is conducted by hand, in small 18-kilogram boxes, selecting only the finest grapes. The grapes reach the winery for a gentle pressing, without destemming and in the absence of oxygen, preserving the natural aromas to the utmost. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, at a low temperature, and the ageing on fine lees extends for 9 months, with bâtonnage three times a week to enhance the wine's body and creaminess on the palate.

Thereafter, the wine rests patiently for 20 months in the bottle before seeing the light of day. The result... is pure harmony: freshness, elegance, depth, and a palate that embraces you without losing vivacity.

So if you have yet to explore the white side of Rioja, this is an excellent starting point. For there are whites that not only meet expectations... but exceed them. And Nivarius Edición Limitada is one of them.
