About Occhipinti Il Frappato

Occhipinti Il Frappato is an organic and biodynamic monovarietal red wine made from Frappato di Vittoria, and produced by Arianna Occhipinti, in Sicily, Italy.

Arianna Occhipinti is a young Sicilian winegrower who works according to the philosophy of respecting wine as if it were a person; a person who carries with them a world, a history and an atmosphere.

With this, Occhipinti Il Frappato once again tells us a story. A dream he had as a child. He wanted to make a wine that reflected the terroir of his birthplace: Vittoria, the area where his winery is located, and the Iblei mountains, which are part of his everyday landscape.

The grapes from which Occhipinti Il Frappato come are from 40 year-old plots with sandy soils of a calcareous nature, located at a height of 280 metres above sea level. The vineyards are cultivated according to the principles of organic agriculture and the bunches are harvested by hand. The must macerates for 30 days with the skins and ferments with its own yeasts. The wine is aged for 14 months in large barrels (or botti) of Slavonian oak, and remains one month in the bottle. It is not filtered.

Occhipinti Il Frappato is perhaps Arianna Occhipinti’s most emblematic wine, the one which, according to her words, most resembles her. A wine that expresses the freshest aspect of the Mediterranean - rebellious, brave and original.
