About Oriol Artigas La Perla

Pansa Blanca, the star variety of the D.O. Alella, is one of the highlights of Oriol Artigas. This chemist and winemaker, a Maresme native, is one of the great champions of this small denomination lying above Barcelona, which is characterised by its old vineyards, its proximity to the Mediterranean and its decomposed granite soil.  Through respectful recovery practices and ancient techniques, he not only contributes to keeping this wine region alive, but he also manages to make wines that interpret the landscape that has been with him his whole life in a dazzling way. This is how he created a trio of Pansa Blanca single-plot wines called La Bella, La Bèstia and La Perla.

The latter, La Perla, is a single-variety wine from a Pansa Blanca vineyard that is over 70 years old and planted on gneiss and granitic sand soils. Cultivated in a respectful way, the grapes are harvested by hand and, once in the winery, a natural vinification process using minimum intervention is carried out. The grapes firstly undergo a 12-day whole-cluster maceration and then they ferment spontaneously with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. The wine stays there for 7 months on its fine lees before bottling.

Saline, fresh and powerful, Oriol Artigas La Perla is an orange wine that honours the coastal plots that lie right alongside the Mediterranean. A sea that bathes the Maresme and provides the characteristic influence of the wines made in the D.O. Alella.


 

2021

Oriol Artigas La Perla 2021 is an orange wine with ripe white fruit aromas accompanied by notes of grapefruit and saline and smoky touches. On the palate it is dry, fruity and powerful. A slightly acidic wine with a smooth texture and a very marked mineral finish.
