About Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore

The noble Florentine Frescobaldi family have been making wines for more than 700 years, having started out in the 14th century. Since then, one single objective has guided their work: the pursuit of excellence. Under this premise, the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia wineries have produced high-quality wines throughout their history, wines that have been enjoyed at the English court (under the reign of Henry VIII) and even in the Vatican.

A recent result of this quest for perfection is Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore, a red made in the DOC Blogheri Superiore, in the Maremma (also known as the Golden Coast of Tuscany) that stretches from Liverno to the Argentario peninsula, in Italy.

This search for the sublime begins in the fields, with the Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore harvest. The grapes are picked manually at the right moment, as they express their maximum aromatic potential. When they reach the winery, these grapes undergo a double selection process: the first as soon as they arrive, and the second after destemming.

Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore ferments in stainless steel tanks (at a temperature between 26ºC and 30ºC) and is macerated for 10-15 days. After this, it is placed in French oak barrels to undergo malolactic fermentation. It spends 1 year here before assemblage. After that, the wine ages for another 6 months. Finally, it spends 1 year in the bottle before being sold.

2020 Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore 2020 is a red wine that on the nose delivers a bouquet of ripe red fruits, complemented by hints of vanilla and sweet tobacco. On the palate, it is velvety and smooth, boasting a rich yet refined tannic structure. An enveloping red wine, it exhibits a beautiful persistence, with a delightful flavor that beckons for a second taste.
2018

Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore 2018 is a concentrated and stylish wine, made with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. On the nose it is reminiscent of blackberry and cherry, along with tar, campfire ash and more sweet fruit. On the palate, blackcurrant, black cherry, cedar, iron and light spices stand out. Bright and concentrated, with refined tannins that emerge in the finish with spicy nuances.

Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore 2015 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. This wine is dense and sophisticated, featuring supple tannins and a velvety mouthfeel. The bouquet is notable for its vanilla, leather, tobacco, and spice aromatics.
