About Oxer Marko Terlegiz

The Basque term Terlegiz, meaning "sanctuary of bees," acquires a special dimension in the wine world through the work of the Basque winemaker Oxer Bastegieta. His txakoli, named Oxer Marko Terlegiz, pays homage not only to nature but also to the familial and cultural roots that define his craft. The name refers to the district of Terlegiz, where Oxer's father was born and where the vineyards that give life to this unique txakoli are located.

Nestled in the village of Kortezubi, a quaint ancient village in Bizkaia (Basque Country), the vineyards for the production of Oxer Marko Terlegiz are situated on a top layer of loamy-clay texture over a limestone subsoil, with patches of schist. Old vines of the varieties hondarrabi zuri and hondarribi zuri zerratia are organically cultivated and hand-harvested at the optimal moment of ripeness. In the winery, the meticulously selected grapes ferment in large oak vats, and finally, the wine remains in contact with its lees for 6 months before being bottled.

Born from the connection between the natural environment, family tradition, and the essence of his homeland, Oxer Marko Terlegiz is an expressive, crisp, and mineral wine worthy of long-term cellaring. A true thoroughbred txakoli!
