About Pago de Valtarreña

Pago de Valtarreña is a red wine from the Ribera del Duero region produced by the Carmelo Rodero winery. At first Carmelo Rodero continued his family tradition and began looking after his families vineyards for a few years, but later decided to opt out of this, and in 1990 started his own career.

Pago de Valtarreña is made using Tinta del Pais (100%) grapes taken from vineyards owned by the Valtarreña family. The vineyards are around 45-55 years old on calcareous clay soils and french sands.

The grapes are harvested by hand in 12kg boxes. Fermentation is then carried out in stainless steel tanks, with maceration in French oak barrels. Pago de Valtarreña is then aged for 24 months in 225 litre French oak barrels with a selected grain that are on average 18 months old.

2020

Pago De Valtarreña 2020 is a red wine that stands out on the nose for its ripe black fruit aromas accompanied by subtle notes reminiscent of coffee. The palate is fresh, fleshy and velvety. A red wine of perfect balance, full of elegance.
2011 Full-bodied and well-structured, it is vivacious and exquisitely balanced. Nuances of caramel with mineral undertones and hints of tobacco. Tenacious with an extensive finish.

Clear and appealing cherry hue. Exceptionally luminous.

Robust black fruit aromas complemented by toasted nuances and hints of coffee. A lingering backdrop of spicy overtones.
2009 Round, fresh, mouth-watering, velvety, structured and well-balanced. Blackberry flavours harmoniously combined with hints of toffee, milky coffee, leafy woods, pipe tobacco and minerals. Long lingering nuances, very long persistence.

Powerful, unctuous, silky and elegant red wine. A real iron hand in a velvet glove. Highly attractive bright and deep dark cherry colour with practically no rim.

Intense nose with a good assortment of aromas. Ripe black fruit together with roasted notes as well as leather and coffee coming through. As it opens out we notice intense, persistent spicy aromas.
