Partida Bellvisos is a natural, organic barrel-aged red wine made by Sara i René Viticultors with the native Cariñena and Garnacha Peluda varieties in the D.O.Q. Priorat (Tarragona).
Sara i René Viticultors are a young winemaking couple who have viticulture in their blood. They both have parents who contributed greatly to Priorat’s success 20 years ago (Luis Pérez and René Barbier), and this couple are carrying their legacy with wisdom and plenty of passion. This project started when they acquired a vineyard in the middle of two small oak forests with beautiful views (hence the name Bellvisos). This is an ecological, sustainable project which beautifully expresses balance and typicality.
Partida Bellvisos comes from old vines lying on the steep slopes of a mountainous area with volcanic soils. They use ecological agriculture and no chemical products. The vineyards are worked manually, with the help of animals (mules). A vegetation cover is used to protect against possible erosion caused by torrential rains and as a barrier against strong sunshine. The Garnacha Peluda ripens one week before the Cariñena and they are harvested separately, taking into account when each variety reaches optimum ripeness.
In the winery, the Garnacha Peluda grapes used to make Partida Bellvisos are not destemmed, and carbonic maceration begins. A week later, the Cariñena is added and crushed by foot. It then ferments spontaneously and slowly with native yeasts and with gentle cap plunges, and macerates for 30 to 40 days with the skins. Finally the wine is pressed and aged in wooden barrels for 15-20 months.
Made from old vines, the Partida Bellvisos red wine masterfully showcases the unique qualities of a small abandoned plot worked using ecological agriculture. Priorat typicity at its best.
