If you are someone who revels in discovering unicorns amidst a stampede, those wines that stand out in the crowd for their rarity and character, Pedro Méndez TresVellas is destined to be your next find. It is not merely another albariño —far from it—, but rather one of those almost mythical creatures in the wine world: scarce, genuine, and with an unmistakable identity.
Behind it is Pedro Méndez, one of the most promising vintners on the Galician scene, who since 2015 has been demonstrating that true luxury in wine lies in authenticity. His project is born from a profound respect for the land and native varieties, deliberately distancing itself from the Denominación de Origen Rías Baixas, in Galicia, to freely explore a personal interpretation of albariño, based on minimal intervention and maximum expression.
And in Pedro Méndez TresVellas, this philosophy reaches one of its pinnacles. Sourced from three nearly century-old vineyards in Simes, Villalonga, and Padriñán —at altitudes nearing 190 metres above the Ría de Arousa—, this albariño ferments spontaneously with its indigenous yeasts and rests for ten months on its fine lees in French oak barrels. After a very gentle filtration and a minimal dose of sulphur, it is bottled almost untouched, just as it is born.
As a result, Pedro Méndez TresVellas is an organic and pure wine, with a silky texture, vibrant depth, and an Atlantic character that captivates with its complexity and ageing potential. As limited as it is special, it is a true discovery for those who believe that the extraordinary still exists.
