About Pepe Raventós Xarel·lo Vinya del Noguer Alt

If there was one rebellious maverick in the world of wine, it would have to be Pepe Raventós. His innovative approach and passion for challenging convention has revolutionised the wine industry. Involved in the world of cava since he was a child, he belongs to the 21st generation of one of the longest standing winemaking families in the world: the Raventós. His bold approach and deep commitment to quality has allowed him to capture the very essence of the grape and the land. Acquiring knowledge first from greats like Didier Dagenau at Poully Fume, Olivier Lamy at Saint Aubin, Herald Hexamer at Nahe, and Phillippe Blanc in Alsace, and then in his own winery, Raventós i Blanc, in 2014 he decided to go one step further by making his own wines just the way he likes them, without sulphites and full of authenticity.

Under the principle “the right way to make great wines is to be extremely local” he presents wines like Pepe Raventós Xarel·lo Vinya del Noguer Alt. This is a white wine made with the native Xarel·lo variety from the Viña del Noguer Alt, a small plot with 50-year-old vines on calcareous soils with a clay texture. In these vineyards, biodynamics is the norm, following a compass marked by the lunar cycle. His cultivation methods reflect a deep respect for the land, nature and sustainability. Harvesting is a manual experience, often assisted by the majestic power of horses. Once in the winery, the selected grapes are pressed and the resulting must ferments spontaneously with native yeasts from the vineyard in a 1,600-litre French oak foudre for 18 days. The wine is then aged for a minimum of 6 months on its lees where the wine stabilises.

With a family tradition of five centuries dedicated to growing grapes in the Penedès, Pepe Raventós produces Pepe Raventós Xarel·lo Vinya del Noguer Alt, a white wine that is the result of his passion for viticulture, native varieties and unique and different soils. A very limited production that confirms his rebellious and nonconformist image.

2021

Pepe Raventós Xarel·lo Vinya del Noguer Alt 2021 is a creamy white wine that, on the nose, is complex and highly intense, with balsamic notes, chamomile, laurel, green aniseed and a touch of white fruit. The palate is fresh, with good acidity, smoothness and a persistent mineral character.
