About Podere Giodo La Quinta

His name is by no means unfamiliar in Italy. Ferrini was a pivotal figure in the “Chianti Classico 2000” project, an initiative that forever altered the perception of vineyards in the region. We are not merely discussing an advisor; we are referring to someone who helped redraw the Chianti map. Massive replanting, new density criteria, rootstock selection, training systems, soil analysis… With him, sangiovese ceased to be merely a grape variety and became a language.

And it is evident.

Because when someone understands a grape to such an extent —its quirks, its limits, its hidden potential— it is only natural that sooner or later they would wish to play their own game. Ferrini did so in Montalcino. And it was no random choice. With sangiovese almost “in his blood,” he chose precisely the place where the variety expresses itself with the most character, tension, and authenticity.

However, Ferrini did not arrive as an apprentice. He came with decades of experience observing other vineyards, reading soils as if they were maps, and refining a very clear vision of what a great wine could be. From this vision emerged Giodo, the personal project of Carlo Ferrini alongside his daughter Bianca. Although relatively young, it is already beginning to secure a prominent position among the wines of Montalcino. Some dare to say it ranks among the best. Not out of trend, but due to consistency.

The wines of Giodo are distinguished by a very clear aesthetic: effortless elegance, fruit purity, freshness, and an almost surgical sense of precision. They are contemporary wines, yet remain rooted.

A prime example is Giodo La Quinta, a wine that encapsulates the project's philosophy without the need for extensive explanations. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of approximately 400 metres, with a southeast exposure, ensuring slow and balanced ripening. Merely 3 hectares in size, with young vines around 10 years old, established on medium-textured soils with the presence of pebbles. An environment that compels the vine to concentrate, to waste nothing.

In the winery, the wine ferments in stainless steel for several days, followed by a period of skin contact that enhances structure and aromatic expression. Afterwards, the ageing is divided between 700-litre barrels, large oak vats, “cocciopesto” amphorae, and concrete tanks.

In Giodo La Quinta, experience transforms into style. A balanced, elegant, and vibrant wine, where everything fits naturally, leaving a sensation of harmony and purity on the palate.
