About Ponte da Boga Porto de Lobos

Ponte da Boga Porto de Lobos is a red wine made by Ponte da Boga with the ancient Brancellao variety in the D.O. Ribeira Sacra.

Ponte da Boga is a centuries-old winery located in one of the most privileged areas within the Ribeira Sacra. Since it was taken over by Corporación Hijos de Rivera in 2005, the winery has been trying to revive ancient varieties like Brancellao, Sousón and Merenzao and use new technologies that make it easier and more accessible to cultivate on such incredible slopes, using drones for example.

At an altitude of 350 and 450 metres, the Ponte da Boga Porto de Lobos vineyards lie in a privileged position on shale-based soils and facing the sun. Vineyards lying on 60% inclines that enforce some heroic viticulture especially when it comes to the harvest, where the only tool that can be used is a harness.

The Ponte da Boga Porto de Lobos grape is destemmed and pressed in the winery. Then it ferments for 10 days with gentle pump overs and a maceration of between 8 and 10 days. The wine is then aged in second- or third-use French oak barrels for 10 months.

Ponte da Boga Porto de Lobos is an ancient ruling variety that represents the complex nuances offered by Atlantic viticulture like nothing else.

2018

Ponte da Boga Porto de Lobos 2018 unfolds a spectrum of aromas where violets and blackcurrants take center stage, complemented by a spicy hint of pepper and bay leaf adding complexity. On the palate, it is expressive and fragrant, with an acidity that bestows freshness and vivacity. It feels harmonious, with a character that is mirrored in its aging notes and the floral and fruity echoes that linger in a smooth and appealing profile.

2016 Ponte da Boga Porto de Lobos 2016 is a red wine with a fruity character and notes of red currants, violet flowers and spicy pepper touches. The aromas from the nose reappear on the palate with a well-balanced acidity and a full body.
