About Ponte da Boga Bancales Olvidados

Ponte da Boga Bancales Olvidados is a single-variety Mencía red wine made by the Galician winery Ponte da Boga in the D.O. Ribeira Sacra.

Ponte da Boga is a Galician winery that has the most authentic ancient vineyards and traditions. Located in Terras Caldelas since 1898, they have managed to cultivate the area’s incredible slopes through heroic viticulture and cutting-edge winemaking. Currently the winery belongs to Corporación Hijos de Rivera.

Ponte da Boga Bancales Olvidados comes from small single plots lying by the Bibei and Sil rivers. These plots are planted with old vines on slate and shale soils in a contrasting climate, providing a very low quantity but high quality yield. The harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach their optimum ripeness.

After the grapes have been destemmed and pressed, Ponte da Boga Bancales Olvidados undergoes alcoholic fermentation for 10 days with maceration and gentle pumping over. Malolactic fermentation and aging continue in second and third use French oak barrels in the winery for 10 months.

Ponte da Boga Bancales Olvidados is a true Mencía in its purest form. A red wine made through the most distinctive landscape and climate.
2017 Ponte da Boga Bancales Olvidados 2017 is a fruity red wine with outstanding aromas of ripe red fruit, floral and herbaceous notes, and spicy touches. On the palate it is fresh, lively and bright thanks to its great acidity. The finish is persistent and pleasant.
