About Porrera Vi de Vila blanc

Music and wine have been linked for centuries, and various cultures around the world have enjoyed combining the two. The relationship between music and wine is unique and meaningful, because both elements can enhance the experience of the other and create a special experience.  So it is not surprising that some famous musicians have become involved in the wine industry by setting up their own winery or partnering with wine producers. One of them, the Catalan singer-songwriter Lluis Llach, together with his friend Enric Costa, set up his own project in the early 1990s called Celler Vall Llach in the town of Porrera, in the Priorat region. Here, he focusses on buying and/or leasing old “trossos” (Catalan for “plots of land”) chosen for their quality.

One of his wines, Porrera Vi de Vila blanc, is a single-variety white Grenache made with grapes from old vines lying on sloping hillsides on the area’s typical slate soils (licorella) at a significant altitude and perfect sun exposure. Traditional agriculture is carried out, avoiding machinery and chemical products, and the grapes are harvested by hand at the optimum point of ripeness. Once in the winery, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature between 12 and 15ºC for 25 days with daily battonage. The wine is then aged for 5 months in 500 litre barrels that have been used once before.

Marketed under the new Vi de Vila subclassification that conveys the typicity of all the winegrowing areas of the DOCa. Priorat, Porrera Vi de Vila blanc is a wine that artfully expresses the genuine character of the licorella soils. Just like good music, this is a sensory delight.

Porrera Vi de Vila blanc 2022 is a creamy white wine with aromas of stone fruit accompanied by mineral notes and toasted hints. On the palate it is intense, unctuous and warm. A wine with a pleasant mid-palate, good acidity and a long finish. 1680 bottles are produced in total.
