Protos 27 2022 is a wine that captivates at first sight with its intense cherry-red hue and violet reflections. About Protos 27

Protos 27 is a wine with which Protos pays homage to its first vintage released in 1927, crafted exclusively from the Tinta del País grape.

Protos, the pioneering winery to establish itself in the DO. Ribera del Duero, has aimed from its inception to produce wines of exceptional quality, by, for instance, limiting yields to achieve well-balanced grapes or meticulously managing the harvest based on the unique characteristics of each of its plots. The vineyard from which the grapes for Protos 27 are sourced is over 50 years old.

During the vinification of Protos 27, grapes were handpicked to allow for an initial selection of bunches in the field, using 20kg boxes to ensure the grapes were handled with utmost care. Subsequently, the bunches were placed in cold storage to preserve their aromas and enhance the fruitiness. Before racking and vatting, the bunches underwent a selection process on a sorting table where only the finest were chosen. The fermentation of Protos 27 occurred at 25°C in 15,000-litre tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels. Finally, the wine was aged for 16 months in these barrels and spent a year in the bottle before being released to the market for further refinement.

On the nose, it unfurls a spectrum of scents where ripe fruit, including red cherries and strawberries, as well as blackberries, is interwoven with delicate spices and a smoky nuance. Upon tasting, its harmony captivates immediately; smooth tannins and seamlessly integrated acidity lead to a persistent and gratifying finish.

Protos 27 2020 is unveiled as an elegantly styled red wine. Its luminosity beckons one to uncover scents of ripe cherries and blackberries interwoven with delicate hints of vanilla and pepper. Upon tasting, it reveals a robust yet approachable structure, with a presence that melds full-bodied richness with invigorating acidity. The palate is graced with the presence of both red and dark fruit flavors, while the mature tannins provide a velvety texture that lingers. A concentrated wine that exhibits poise and refinement.
2015 Protos 27 has aromas of fresh fruit and is complex, balsamic and elegant. The fruit and tertiary aromas that come from the barrel have been integrated perfectly in it. On the palate it is powerful and concentrated, balanced and persistent.
