About Punto de Fuga Corral del Mate

Punto de Fuga Corral del Mate is a wood-aged red wine made by the Zorzal Project with the Garnacha variety in the D.O. Navarra, Spain.
 
After dedicating his whole life to the world of wine, Antonio Sanz saw his dream come true in 1989 when he began making his own wines in Navarra. From this experience, his sons Xabier, Iñaki and Mikel Sanz created Viña Zorzal Wines in 2007. A project that focusses on single-plot wines that showcase the typicity of the area. They are now also expanding with the new range of wines created with Argentine winemaker Matías Michelini.
 
Punto de Fuga Corral del Mate comes from vineyards located in the Navarra area of Corral de los Altos. An area of 0.53 hectares with very old vines that are cultivated using environmentally friendly agriculture, without the use of chemical products, and harvested by hand at the optimum point of ripeness. 
 
In the winery, the Punto de Fuga Corral del Mate grapes ferment spontaneously in whole bunches and with native yeasts, removing the stalks at every cap plunge. The wine then ages for 18 months in used 500-litre barrels. 
 
Punto de Fuga Corral del Mate is the first wine made by the project jointly run by Viña Zorzal Wines and Matías Michelini with the aim of producing wines from the world’s great terroirs. A selection of different plots made in a small area that goes right to the heart, as you can tell from the label, featuring an electrocardiogram.

2018 Punto de Fuga Corral del Mate 2018 is a smooth red wine with fresh aromas of red and black fruit, spicy notes and touches of fine wood. On the palate it is delicate, deep and mineral. It reveals somewhat wild tannins and accentuated acidity. Two characteristics that mean this wine develops well in the bottle.
