Rioja Alta 890 Gran Reserva is a red wine from the D.O. La Rioja, crafted by Bodega Rioja Alta in Haro, one of the locales with the highest concentration of wineries in the world.

Rioja Alta 890 Gran Reserva is a remarkable wine from La Rioja that is exclusively produced in vintages deemed extraordinary.

The wine, a blend of Tempranillo, Graciano, and Mazuelo, originates from the winery's own old vines over 40 years of age, planted in the Rioja village of Rodezno. These estates have very poor limestone soils that yield a scant production, with loose clusters and small berries, yet of exceptional quality.

A great wine emerges from a meticulous selection, and in this instance, the selection begins in the vineyard. The harvest is conducted manually, selecting only the finest clusters, which are transported to the winery in small refrigerated boxes to ensure the grapes retain all their properties intact.

Following the alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, another selection is carried out. Only the finest wines are chosen for ageing, which occurs over 72 months in American oak barrels, 20% new and the remainder fourth-year, handcrafted in the winery's own cooperage.

After 12 rackings, another selection is made. Only the finest barrels become part of the final blend of this Rioja Alta 890 Gran Reserva. A meticulous selection that culminates in the bottling of just 15,900 bottles.
Rioja Alta 890 Gran Reserva undergoes no filtration, thereby striving to preserve its full array of aromas.

Rioja Alta 890 Gran Reserva 2010 is a red wine that reveals the classic Rioja bouquet on the nose. Notes of cherry jam and black plum compote emerge, accompanied by aromas of tobacco leaf, cinnamon, vanilla, pepper, and cocoa powder. On the palate, its elegance is expressed through a silky texture and refined tannins, offering a deep and lingering flavour that reflects its noble ageing. A red wine with pleasant freshness, complex and well-rounded.
 
2001 On the palate it is sophisticated, silky, structured and balanced. It has well worked, elegant and fine tannins. Long and complex after taste.

A medium-robe; by sight it is a ruby colour with an orange colour on the rim which is proportionate to the long barrel aging.


Very rich aromas. Subtle balsamic, coco and vanilla notes with chocolate and mature fruit.
1998 Very elegant on the palate. Structured, balanced. Very polished, silky tannins.

Cherry red colour. Medium-robe.

Very intense. Spices, leather, cocoa, tobacco and vanilla with fruit jam.
1995 The attack is sweet, with good structure and balanced components, with silky tannins and notes of fruit provided during its long ageing in barrels and bottles. Lingering, complex aftertaste. Very long and elegant wine.

Ruby reflections. Dense legs.

Typical ageing aromas (toasted, vanilla) with a good background of good ripe fruit (red and black) that emerges along with balsamic touches.
1994 The attack is greedy, enveloping, good structure, balanced in its components, with silky tannins result of its long aging in cask and bottle. Persistent complex aftertaste. Very long wine, great life and to be regarded as one of the great Riojas of this crop.

This vintage is characterized by its tile red, with gold edging on the rim of the glass and a layer of color darker than previous harvest.

Intense initial flavor, with an elegant bouquet in his long tenure in the bottle. Toasted and balsamic notes, with hints of vanilla and cinnamon with a background of ripe fruit.
