About Roig Parals Camí de Cormes

More than 100 years ago, like many other inhabitants of l'Empordà (Catalonia), Joaquín, Santi Roig's great-grandfather, crossed the "camí de Cormes" to work the vineyard in Roussillon (France). On his return home, he took the opportunity to bring back sprouts of Carignan and replant the vineyard devastated by phylloxera. Years later, when the vines began to bear their first fruits, with the help of other winegrowers in the area his grandfather Narcís Roig created the Mollet de Peralada cooperative. Over time it was abandoned, due to the disproportionate relationship between the supply and demand of grapes. Fortunately, the fourth generation embodied in the figure of Santi Roig and his wife Mariona Parals decided to trust wine culture again in 2005 with the creation of their own wine project Roig Parals. A dream come true, which has come into being from the family legacy and whose objective is to maintain the place’s essence.

All this heritage is reflected in Roig Parals Camí de Cormes, a single varietal wine from centenary Cariñenas planted on sand, silt and clay soils at an altitude of 50 m and touched by the cold and turbulent wind of the Tramuntana. The vines are cultivated using organic agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness. In the winery, the grapes are destemmed and cold macerated for 24 hours. Fermentation then begins at a constant temperature for 20 days and, finally, the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.   

Under the D.O. Empordà (Catalonia), Roig Parals Camí de Cormes is presented as a unique, authentic and original wine. A tribute to a land that has been worked, devastated and recovered again at the hands of the Roigfamily.

 

2019

Roig Parals Camí de Cormes 2019 is a concentrated red wine with aromas of violet flowers, notes of candied fruit and balsamic hints. On the palate it’s warm, silky and elegant. A persistent wine with good acidity, and varietal nuances.
