About Rolland Galarreta Ribera

Rolland Galarreta Ribera is a red wine from the D.O Ribera del Duero by Rolland Galarreta. This is a blend of the varieties Tempranillo (85%) and Merlot (15%).

The vineyards are the property of Bodegas Valtravieso, which measure around 73ha and grow at 915 meters above sea level, only the best plots of land are chosen.

The vines have an average age of 35 years and planted in stony soils, low in organic matter.

The grapes are selected in two stages: in the vineyard and in the winery. The grapes for Rolland Galarreta Ribera are placed in the tanks whole after having been destemmed.

The grapes are also placed into oak casks with the cap submerged, here, a long maceration process is performed at low temperatures.

Pump overs are completed in order to extract the desired polyphenols from the must, this is all done by hand.
Rolland Galarreta Ribera undergoes a pressing by a pneumatic press vertically. Before ageing, the wine is malolactically fermented in younger than 4th year French oak barrels.
Finally Rolland Galarreta Ribera rests for 10 months in French oak barrels. Before being bottled the wine is not filtered.

Michel Rolland, the famous French oenologist and Javier Galarreta, a Spanish businessman well-known to the wine world, decided to join forces and start this project.

The result, they produce three excellent wines from the three designations of origins from which they operate: D.O. Rueda, D.O. La Rioja and D.O. Ribera del Duero.

2011 Full-bodied and concentrated, the wine is very elegant and complex. Fleshly with silky tannins, structured and has an attractive finish.

Dark and intense cherry colour with ruby touches.

Smooth and balanced notes. Presence of spicy and fruity touches.
