About Sàgona FonFon

If ships are named and cars are spoken to as if they possess a soul, why not a wine? Especially when that wine originates from a place steeped in history, imbued with patience... and character.

Sàgona FonFon is far more than just a charming label. It is a tribute to one of the most endearing characters from Jean-Claude Izzo's Marseille trilogy (Total Khéops, Chourmo, Solea). FonFon, an old socialist, is the owner of a neighbourhood bar where there's always a glass of pastis waiting and a silence laden with meaning. He is one of those who doesn't need to raise his voice to be understood. He listens, observes, and leaves room for stories. This very spirit—discreet, welcoming, and profoundly human—is what Sàgona has sought to bottle.

Since its inception in 2012, the Sàgona project has adhered to this same philosophy of doing things truthfully, without artifice. On the slopes of Pratomagno, in the most hidden and genuine part of Tuscany, Sàgona cultivates vineyards, olive trees, and orchards on leased lands, inherited from ancient subsistence models. There is no monoculture, nor uniformity. There is fragmentation, yes, but also coherence, respect for the land, and a way of working that centres on the essential... Cultivating, preserving, and storytelling.

Thus, Sàgona FonFon is born, a white wine that honours this shared history between land, time, and perspective. Made from the local varieties trebbiano and malvasia from a vineyard over 50 years old in the Ambra Valley, at an altitude of about 300 metres. In the winery, it ferments with native yeasts, after a 10-day skin maceration, and rests for 12 months in steel tanks. It is unfiltered. It is not disguised. It is simply accompanied, with patience.

Like Izzo's character, Sàgona FonFon does not impose; it invites. To slow down, to look around, and to reconnect with the silent beauty of the authentic. A wine that does not seek to be the protagonist, yet leaves a lasting impression.
