About Sàgona ViNotte
In language, diminutives are often employed to denote something smaller, younger, or with an affectionate tone. Far from diminishing value, a diminutive can indicate a distinct identity within the same root. This is akin to when a son bears the name of his father, but in a diminutive form. It shares the same origin, yet not the same character.
In this spirit, Sàgona ViNotte emerges, a word invented from "vino," transformed into a diminutive not out of lack of ambition, but due to its manner of inception. It is one of the wines from the Sàgona project, born from the most concentrated and unique interpretation of the grapes already used in another of their wines, Sàgona Primi Passi (First Step).
Sàgona is a small estate located on the slopes of Pratomagno, in the province of Arezzo, in the heart of Tuscany. At an altitude of 500 metres, surrounded by dry stone walls, the property boasts 4 hectares of vineyards planted in the 1960s and 1970s.
For nearly a decade, those driving this project have restored an old farmhouse, replanted part of the vineyard, and revived over 800 olive trees on mountain terraces. Their commitment extends not only to organic viticulture — increasingly aligned with biodynamic practices — but also to the conservation of the landscape and the community that still inhabits this hidden corner of Tuscany.
Sàgona ViNotte is crafted from trebbiano and malvasia grapes from the same vineyard that gives rise to Primi Passi. Vines planted in silt and clay soils where the climate favours slow ripening, with significant temperature fluctuations between day and night. After the harvest, an initial pressing is conducted to obtain the free-run juice destined for this wine. The pressed grapes are left to rest overnight and, the following day, are pressed again.
This second, more intense pressing yields a more concentrated must, with greater character, which ferments spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks. The ageing process lasts for at least 6 months in concrete tanks, allowing the preservation of its freshness and highlighting its varietal expression.
Sàgona ViNotte embraces its diminutive name with pride. It is not a lesser wine, but a more direct, purer, and more concentrated version of the same origin. An illustration of how language, territory, and agricultural practice can intertwine to narrate a unique story within the same family.
| 2024 | Sàgona ViNotte 2024 is a white wine that captivates from the outset with its brilliant straw-yellow hue. As you bring the glass closer, it awakens the senses with aromas of ripe apple, peach, and apricot, accompanied by a delicate jasmine fragrance that evokes springtime. On the palate, it surprises with its freshness and well-balanced body, leaving a pleasant and flavoursome finish that invites continued enjoyment. This vintage stands out for its creaminess, thanks to ageing in stainless steel, allowing the essence of its fruit to shine with authenticity. It is recommended for those seeking a fresh, aromatic, and expressive wine in every sip. |
