About Santa Tresa Rina Lanka Grillo Viognier

Similarly, while the red wines of Sicilia enjoy great acclaim, the white wines are those remarkable supporting players with much to offer. They often go unnoticed, yet possess the potential to surprise and delight with their freshness and elegance. The Santa Tresa project, a small winery located in Vittoria, in southern Sicily, plays a significant role in elevating the quality of white wines, cultivating indigenous varieties with a sustainable approach.

Among its treasures is the Santa Tresa Rina Lanca Grillo Viognier. Its name, “Rina Ianca,” meaning “white sand” in Sicilian dialect, honours this freshness and purity. The vineyards of the grillo and viognier varieties, situated on "terra rossa" and limestone soils, benefit from a cool southern sea breeze that offsets the inland heat. Organic farming is practised, and harvesting is done manually in 15 kg boxes. The grapes are chilled overnight in a refrigerated chamber to lower the temperature to 6-8°C, and the following day, the grapes are destemmed and pressed very gently, each variety separately. The resulting must ferments in stainless steel tanks for 10-12 days at a controlled temperature. Finally, the wines are blended and aged on their fine lees for about 4 months, with frequent stirring.

As the winery's most awarded wine in international competitions, Santa Tresa Rina Ianca Grillo Viognier has established itself as a benchmark in the new wave of Sicilian white wines. With its minerality, freshness, and distinctive character, this wine proves that it is not a supporting player at all, but a star that shines on its own.
