Savage Red 2022 is a bold and expressive red wine, brimming with enveloping aromas of blackberry, plum, and black cherry. These scents intertwine with a subtle hint of spices and an earthy undertone. Upon tasting, it unfolds with structure and body, offering generous tannins that add complexity. The dark fruit flavours are interwoven with notes of dried herbs and tobacco, alongside a faint smoky touch that imparts a distinctive character. The balanced acidity provides a sense of freshness, while its lingering finish sustains the pleasure long after each sip. About Savage Red

The Western Cape of South Africa is a true haven for surfers. Constant waves, sea breeze that refreshes and fills the air with salt... a perfect setting for both riding the waves and cultivating grapes with character. This oceanic influence not only attracts surfers; it also defines the style of the local wines, imparting freshness, minerality, and a unique touch that makes them unmistakable.

In this environment resides and works Duncan Savage, passionate about both surfing and viticulture. After 14 years as a winemaker at Cape Point Vineyards, where he gained a reputation for crafting wines with a distinct maritime and saline character, Duncan decided to take a leap in 2011 and create his own venture: Savage Wines. By 2016, he could devote all his energy to perfecting each bottle and each vineyard.

The name of the winery, "Savage", says it all: pure, intense, natural, and with an untamed character. A statement of intent that is reflected in every bottle.

A perfect example of his work is Savage Red. This wine, which was previously a blend of various varieties, is now 100% syrah, sourced from organic vineyards in Stellenbosch planted on decomposed granite soils and managed with dry farming and organic cultivation. After manual harvesting, it ferments spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, using 70% whole clusters. It then ages for 13 months in 500-litre barrels, followed by 9 months in foudre, with minimal sulfur added. Everything is designed for the wine to speak for itself.

Savage Red is an intense, elegant wine full of personality, perfectly reflecting Duncan's philosophy and the influence of the sea and the granitic soils of the Western Cape. A syrah that captures the spirit of the ocean and the untamed character of its land.
