About Scala Dei Pla Dels Àngels

Scala Dei Pla dels Àngels is a rosé wine from D.O.Q. Priorat produced by Celler Scala Dei, in the municipality of La Morera del Montsant (Tarragona).

 

Celler Scala Dei is a historic wine of Priorat. In 1878, the first bottles of Priorat wine left their facilities to go to the Universal Exhibition in Paris. Almost a century later, in 1973, Scala Dei went from bulk wine commercialisation to the production of bottled wines.

Celler Scala Dei works with 90 hectares of their own vineyards, distributed in 40 different locations. All these plots are located between 400 and 800 metres of altitude, on different kinds of soils. Slate, clay and calcareous soils, with all the possible orientations thanks to the unique terrain of the region.

 

Scala Dei Pla dels Àngels is a rosé wine made from Black Grenache from young and old vines located in the higher areas of Scala Dei. They are planted on clayey soils that preserve the acidity, and therefore, the freshness, of the grape during its harvest.

To preserve the aromatic features of the Grenache, they refrigerate the grapes when they arrive at the winery (up to 2ºC). They separate the pulp from the seeds, and after 3 hours of maceration with the skins, they start the saignée of the deposit to achieve this pale, attractive colour. After this, the fermentation takes place as they do for white wines. When the fermentation ends, it rests for around 4 moths in deposits, until it is bottled.

 

 

2021

Scala Dei Pla Dels Àngels 2021 is a very attractive pale rosé, with bluish reflections. The nose is very elegant and subtle, with aromas of red fruit, tropical fruit and citrus. The palate is fresh and explosive, with flavours of strawberries, grapefruit and hints of aniseed. Enveloping and persistent finish.

Scala Dei Pla dels Àngels 2020 is a fresh, easy to drink and balanced wines. Very fragrant on the nose, crunchy red fruit with aniseed-like notes. In the mouth, in is intense and refreshing.
