When Gina from Lady of the Sunshine and Mikey from Scar of the Sea married, they not only united their lives but also their ventures in the Central Coast of the Pacific, in California (USA). However, despite sharing a philosophy of minimal intervention, they hail from different schools, which is evident in each of their wines. On one hand, Lady of the Sunshine exhibits a playful, fresh, and transparent style, while on the other, Scar of the Sea presents a more serious and profound air, offering wines that are genuine expressions of purity and allure. Through their collaboration, they demonstrate that, despite their differences, it is possible to create something exceptional, capturing the essence of the Pacific and the spirit of the place in every bottle.
Focused on collaborating with farmers committed to organic viticulture, without additives or manipulation, Scar of the Sea Bassi Vineyard Syrah is a wine originating from the coast of San Luis Obispo between San Francisco and Los Angeles, in a vineyard, Bassi, located 1.2 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Vines of the syrah variety thrive on sandstone soils cultivated with exclusively organic treatments, considering the needs of the plant at every moment. Once the grapes are hand-harvested, they ferment with native yeasts and 100% whole clusters. The pressing is done in wooden baskets, and then it ages for 10 months in a combination of large-format 500L barrels and 225L barrels. Finally, it is bottled unfiltered with a minimal amount of sulfur.
Inspired by the influence of the Pacific Ocean and the radiant Californian sun, Scar of the Sea Bassi Vineyard Syrah is a true expression of the terroir and the shared passion of two visionaries. This balanced and seductive red wine represents a new generation of winemakers who value purity and authenticity in every bottle.
