About Sclavos Monambeles

Throughout life, there are moments that define us and alter our course. Something similar has happened with the Sclavos family, whose winemaking story is intertwined with tradition, innovation, and a passion for the land. Originating from Domata, on the island of Kefalonia (Greece), their vinous journey is divided into three significant stages that have left an indelible mark on the history of Greek wine.

The adventure began in 1919, when the first family vineyard was established in Paliki, Kefalonia. Years later, in 1986, they took a significant step towards sustainability by obtaining organic certification. And in 1996, under the leadership of the third generation, spearheaded by Vladis Sclavos, they embraced biodynamic principles. It was during this third stage that a true revolution occurred: the dry vinification of mavrodafni. Until then, a variety mainly associated with sweet and fortified wines, Vladis paved the way for a new era for this grape and for the Ionian island, putting Kefalonia on the wine map.

Today, with Sclavos Monambeles we can savour the excellence of this renewed tradition. Sourced from high-altitude mavrodafni vineyards, cultivated on limestone and marl soils, this wine reflects the authenticity of its origin. The alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, along with 12 months of ageing in oak barrels, endow the wine with an unmistakable complexity and elegance. Finally, to preserve its purity, it is bottled unfiltered and without added sulphur.

Sclavos Monambeles transports us to the island of Kefalonia, with its breathtaking landscapes and rich winemaking tradition, now more vibrant than ever. A true tribute to the land and the family who have made it possible.
