About Siflogo Mavropatrino

Many connoisseurs of viticulture and wine production often possess an in-depth understanding of the land, history, and culture of the region in which they operate. Undoubtedly, this attribute is a significant part of their identity as vintners. With a venerable legacy in winemaking that dates back thousands of years, Greece boasts a rich history and tradition that is mirrored in its extensive array of grape varieties and wine styles. One who is well-acquainted with this is Dionysis Papanikolopoulos, a professor, poetry writer, and a devotee of the heritage, culture, and local history of Lefkada, a Greek island in the Ionian Sea who, drawing upon his wealth of knowledge, embarks on the creation of wines in the quaint mountainous village of Platystoma. As he describes, Siflogo is a boutique “workshop” producing organic wines crafted from indigenous varieties using time-honored techniques.

Thus was born Siflogo Mavropatrino, a rosé wine produced with mavropatrino, an exceedingly rare local grape variety that Dionysis, along with his wife Maria and son Vasilis, have revived. This grape is virtually unique to their cultivation and vinification. The vines, ranging from 20 to 50 years old, are planted in rocky limestone soil at an elevation of 500 meters above sea level and are organically certified. The harvest is done manually in small boxes, and once in the winery, the grapes undergo a 3-day maceration with the skins, and fermentation occurs naturally in stainless steel tanks with gentle temperature control over 45 days. The wine is then left to mature on lees for five months in the same vessels. It is finally bottled unfiltered, unfined, without sulfites, and without any additives.

With a fervent commitment to preserving the island’s winemaking tradition and culture, Siflogo Mavropatrino is a juicy, vibrant, and fruity rosé that perfectly captures the essence of its terroir.

2021

Siflogo Mavropatrino 2021 is a fruity rosé wine endowed with scents of floral nuances, complemented by hints of red fruit, citrus, and herbaceous undertones. On the palate, it is succulent, vivacious, and harmonious. This is a light-bodied wine with a zesty acidity, a textured mouthfeel, and a fruity, invigorating finish.
