About Sotorrondero
Jimenez Landi Sotorrondero is a red wine from Méntrida produced by the Jimenez Landi winery. This winery is located in the Toledo Méntrida village, northwest of Castilla la Mancha.
Jimenez Landi Sotorrondero is a blend of Syrah (40%) and Grenache (60%). The Syrah grapes come from vineyards planted 12 years ago at 630m altitude, located in the village of Méntrida.
The Garnacha grapes come from old vines planted 45 years ago at an altitude of between 750 and 850 metres and are located in the Royal town of San Vicente.
The vines are planted on sandy-granitic soils and cultivated using organic farming and little interventionist methods that prioritise manual work rather than use of machinery.
The development of Jimenez Landi Sotorrondero begins with a manual harvest in boxes in mid-September. Once in the winery and after stripping, fermentation takes place in wooden vats and steel tanks for 15-30 days. Then malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels.
After the fermentation process, the wine is aged for 11 months in French oak barrels. Before marketing Jimenez Landi Sotorrondero is neither clarified nor filtered.
| 2013 | Good entry, intense and full of flavour with smoked and mineral notes. Balanced with good acidity. Mature and well defined tannins. Very persistent. Cherry, medium-high. Clean, bright, with dense tears. Medium-high, complex intensity. Aromas of ripe black fruit, toast and balsamic notes. Finishing with a floral and plant background. |
|
| 2011 | In this new vintage the fruit is more present in the mouth, with an engulfing and tasty passage through the mouth. Good, deep acidity, defined and integrated with robust tannins. Nice bitter notes at the end which prelude a medium-length finish with good persistence. Intense picota cherry colour with violet reflections. Abundant, dense, tinted tears stain the glass. Complex and concentrated aromas, clean. Lots of powerful, ripe black fruit accompanied by floral, vegetal and balsamic notes on a mineral, toasted background. |
|
| 2010 | Very good, broad and embracing attack and a long, soft, tasty and meaty mid palate with a velvety texture and lots of juicy notes of fruit nuanced by the sweety and creamy toasted aromas. Its sweet tannins are well integrated. It shows a very good acidity and a long and very persistent finish.
A very tasty and elegant wine. Very seductive. Intense cherry colour with purple edges. Medium-high robe. Clean and bright wine, with elegant, creamy, slow-falling tears. Very intense aromas with an elegant and seductive complexity. Initially, the aromas of creamy spices and elegant toasted notes provided during its ageing in wood are mixed with the mineral hints provided by the soil. They give way to juicy and expressive notes of red and black ripe fruit. Its herbal and balsamic background rounds out the aromatic set. |
|
| 2009 | Very good entry, broad and enveloping. Long distance, soft, tasty, meaty, velvety texture, with lots of juicy fruit nuanced by the greedy and the creamy roasted. Sweet tannins well integrated. Very good acidity. Long and very persistent.
A very rich wine, elegant. Very seductive. Intense cherry color with purple trim. Medium-high. Clean and bright, with an elegant tear drop creamy and slow. Very intense aromas with an elegant and seductive complexity. A cup stop are the aromas of its passage through the wood species and fine creamy roasted ore mixed with memories of the land that gave way to a juicy and expressive red and black fruit ripe. Herbaceous and balsamic background round out the set. |
|
| 2008 | Very broad and deep attack. Powerful and sweet wine, with a good presence of all the fruity aromas found in the nose, spicy hints and some mineral touches. Tasty, meaty and velvety. Well-balanced acidity that provides a good freshness to this wine. Long and persistent aftertaste full of refined toasted aromas.
A Méntrida wine that fills our senses. A pleasure of a wine! Intense dark maroon with violet edges. Bright. Dense and very elegant tear. Intense and deep aromas among which the very sweet red and mainly black fruit take centre stage. Quickly, the elegant toasted and spicy notes (specially vanilla) arise along with notes of chocolate and coffee and a floral touch. Surprising notes of peppers. |
|
| 2007 | Intense garnet color. Intense aromas like pepper, medium intensity, good volume, fat, these integrated tannins, velvety, light roasted sweet spot. |
