About Travaglini Il Sogno

Travaglini Il Sogno is a barrel-aged red wine made by the Italian Travaglini winery in Gattinara (Piedmont) with the Nebbiolo variety.

The Travaglini family has been making great limited-production wines in the Gattinara denomination for four generations. Their hard work helped revive one of the most important wine regions, which at the beginning of the 20th century was devastated by phylloxera and a great hail storm. A real turning point came in 1958 when Giancarlo, a legendary character with a real passion for the Nebbiolo variety, founded the current winery and helped change Gattinara’s fortunes.

Travaglini Il Sogno comes from vineyard lying at an altitude of 320 to 420 metres above sea level. This area has rocky soils that are rich in granite and iron and bathed by a continental climate with strong temperature contrasts between day and night. The vines are cultivated using traditional agriculture and Giancarlos’ methods of high-density sowing, Guyot vine training and completely manual harvesting.

When the Travaglini Il Sogno grapes reach the winery they are left to dry for about 100 days on racks at room temperature and with natural ventilation. Then, with 50% less water they are vinified in stainless steel tanks over a period of 25-30 days at a controlled temperature. Finally, the wine ages for 40 months in used Slavic oak barrels and 10 months in the bottle.

Travaglini Il Sogno is sold in a unique twisted bottle that acts as a decanter at the same time. A wine in the pure “Amarone” style that was made as a tribute to the winery founder’s dream coming true.

2012 Travaglini Il Sogno 2012 is a concentrated red wine with complex aromas of ripe red fruits, balsamic notes and spicy touches. On the palate it is bulky with intense ripe fruit flavours, a well balanced minerality and a sweet finish.
