About Vigneti Massa Anarchia Costituzionale

Since the 1970s, there has been great concern about the recovery of Timorasso, a white variety native to Piedmont (northern Italy), which was on the verge of disappearing. Since then, Walter Massa has been cultivating 30 hectares of vineyards, most of them of this variety, in the Tortona area, specifically in the hills of Monleale, at an altitude of about 300 metres above sea level. However, this is not the only variety grown at Vigneti Massa (the winery founded by Walter’s ancestors in 1879); other varieties like Barbera, Croatina, Freisa and Moscato are also grown there. From this latter variety (one of the most widely planted in northern Italy) comes Vigneti Massa Anarchia Costituzionale, a sparkling, sweet and very aromatic sparkling wine.

The grapes for this wine are grown in the Tortona area (about one hour from Milan). The soils here are very varied, but what sets them apart is their mainly mineral composition, which can unquestionably be seen in the wines. The vines are cultivated in a respectful way, paying special attention to their quality. After the harvest, the grape bunches used to make Vigneti Massa Anarchia Costituzionale are taken to the winery, where vinification begins.

The work begins in the press, where the Vigneti Massa Anarchia Costituzionale must is made. To do this, a very gentle pressure is applied to obtain the best quality and fineness. The yield is racked to stainless steel tanks, where fermentation begins. The process, where the yeasts convert the sugars into alcohol, is partial. This leaves a high sugar content that is completely natural, with no additives of any kind. The most natural and pure Piedmont expression. As the label says: “artisan pride, grower’s guarantee”.

2021

Vigneti Massa Anarchia Costituzionale 2021 is a fruity sparkling wine. The nose is very expressive, with notes of yellow flowers, ripe peaches and caramel. The palate is sweet, balanced and creamy. Dense and full-bodied, revealing fresh and sweet fruit flavours. Sparkling bubbles appear at the end.
