About Vikevike Ghirada Fittiloghe

"The Wolf and the Seven Young Goats", "The Princess and the Dragon", or "The Tortoise and the Hare" are but a few examples from the vast tapestry of folktales that have withstood the test of time across various cultures around the globe. These narratives impart timeless values, profound life lessons, and the wisdom handed down through the ages. In a similar vein, for the young Sardinian winemaker Simone Sedilesu, the craft of winemaking extends far beyond mere agricultural practice; it is a philosophy deeply rooted in his family and in the vinicultural tradition that has been carefully and diligently passed down through the years. Embracing the notion that wine is primarily made in the vineyard, after earning his degree in enology and gaining experience at different wineries abroad, he chose to return to his home in Mamoiada (Sardinia) to establish his own winery under the Sardinian colloquialism Vikevike ("Look, look"). This expression not only signifies a call to the authenticity of the land but also serves as a battle cry to preserve and promote the unique identity of his homeland.

Thus, he introduces us to Vikevike Ghirada Fittiloghe, a red wine crafted from the indigenous cannonau grape variety sourced from a vineyard just over 15 years old, planted on granitic soils with a loose structure and slight acidity, situated at an elevation of 750 meters above sea level. Cultivated organically with very low yields, the grapes are handpicked at the optimal point of ripeness. In the winery, as Simone himself puts it, the goal is to simply guide the grape and "not spoil it". To this end, the selected grapes are crushed and fermented for about two weeks in small 1000-liter vats. Subsequently, the wine is refined in stainless steel tanks for 18 months and bottled unclarified, unfiltered, and without the addition of sulfites.

Hailing from the lofty hills of Mamoiada, in the heart of Barbagia, Vikevike Ghirada Fittiloghe truly encapsulates the essence of its homeland. This modern-style cannonau is distinguished by its elegance, richness, and vivacity, beckoning one to relish the authenticity of a tradition passed down from parent to child, generation after generation.

The Vikevike Ghirada Fittiloghe 2019 is a red wine of a captivating ruby hue that enchants from the outset. On the nose, it boasts a bouquet of brandied cherries, complemented by subtle floral undertones and a distinctive graphite accent, all enveloped in a Mediterranean essence. Upon tasting, its vivacity and pleasing flavour linger delightfully on the palate. Its profile is seamless, rendering it exceptionally approachable and enjoyable.
