About Villa Matilde Greco di Tufo
Villa Matilde Greco di Tufo is a single-variety Greco white wine made in Campania (Italy) by Villa Matilde.
In 1960, lawyer Francesco Paolo Avallone made his dream come true, starting a project to recover one of the most sophisticated wines of ancient Rome, the “divine Falerno”. To do this, they were determined to revive ancient varieties that were lost after the devastating phylloxera outbreak. This is how he ended up at the foot of the Roccamonfina volcano and where he began to grow old vines. Currently, his two children are keeping the mission alive, whilst also introducing an environmental sustainability process in the winery, installing solar panels, reusing water for irrigation and using low-emission machinery.
Villa Matilde Greco di Tufo comes from vineyards planted between 1956 and 1980 at an altitude of between 400 and 500 metres above sea level. These strains are over 40 years old, planted in clay soil and cultivated using respectful agriculture. The work is manual and the machinery used consumes half of what conventional vehicles do. The production yield is limited to 3,000 litres per hectare and the harvest is manual, selecting the grapes in the vineyard itself.
Once the grape is destemmed, it is pressed gently and cold settled. Villa Matilde Greco di Tufo then ferments in stainless steel tanks for about 4 months with its own lees. It is then finally bottled.
Villa Matilde Greco di Tufo is a white wine that reveals the character and strong typicity of a volcanic area like Roccamonfina.

| 2018 | Villa Matilde Greco di Tufo 2018 is an aromatic white wine with intense aromas of stone fruits, sweet almonds and mineral and citrus notes. On the palate it is fresh, lively and rich. It has a pleasant mid-palate and a persistent finish with mineral touches. | |
