About Villota Viña Gena Viñedo Singular

They deserve a prize for what they do. At Bodegas Villota, this prize has come in the form of a vineyard named after her. The person behind this story: Genara Villota, grandmother of Carmen Pérez Garrigues (current winery manager), who has named the estate’s oldest plot Viña Gena. This land, with Tempranillo vines aged over 90 years old, was planted in 1930 by Ricardo Pérez Pérez (Carmen's great-grandfather) when he returned from Chile. Today, it’s a real gem. There, in the heart of the D.O.Ca. Rioja, Villota Viña Gena Viñedo Singular, is made. A red where quality is more important than quantity. 

Taking this into account, the yield is not very high, but this guarantees that Villota Viña Gena Viñedo Singular, made in Rioja Alavesa, in the northeast of the Iberian Peninsula, on the banks of the Ebro, is always excellent quality.

Villota Viña Gena Viñedo Singular receives its high-quality finish in the winery, with a one-year aging in French oak barrels complemented by aging in concrete tanks.

2018

Villota Viña Gena Viñedo Singular 2018 is a concentrated wine, made with Tempranillo. On the nose there are floral touches (fresh rose) and ripe fruit. On the palate there is an initial pleasant hit of fruit with a stimulating acidity. The tannins are balanced with other fresh and minty nuances, good volume. Clean and elegant with persistence on the palate.
