About Viña Pomal Blanco

If the DOCa. Rioja is renowned for anything, it is for its outstanding reds; however, this southeastern Spanish region is not solely about reds. The DOCa. Rioja is also home to exceptional whites. And if you doubt it, we encourage you to try Viña Pomal Blanco. 
 
Viura and Malvasía are the two grape varieties that form the soul of this barrel-fermented white, which spends several months on its lees in new French oak barrels. Like the other wines from Bodegas Bilbaínas, Viña Pomal Blanco is crafted from grapes grown at Finca Pomal, their own 90-hectare vineyard where the vines thrive on a diverse array of soils, including clay and lime, as well as clay and alluvial soils. This fresh composition, which allows for gentle ripening, perfectly complements the region's Atlantic climate, characterised by harsh winters, mild summers, and springs with moderate rainfall. 
 
In the case of Viña Pomal Blanco, after the harvest, the grapes are swiftly transported to the winery, where they are destemmed and crushed, producing a must that is left to macerate in contact with the skins for approximately six hours. After this period, Viña Pomal Blanco is pressed and transferred to new French oak barrels for alcoholic fermentation. Once this process is complete, and the wine is made, Viña Pomal Blanco will rest on its lees for several months, undergoing various battonages and stirrings.
