About Viña Salceda Crianza

In this new venture, David González faced quite the challenge. Reinterpreting Viña Salceda Crianza is no easy feat. This red wine, a true benchmark in the DOCa Rioja, heralds a new era. And we certainly don't want to miss it.  
 
Described as "admirable," the outcome could not have been better. The tempranillo and garnacha blend seamlessly, showcasing the full potential of the Rioja terroir in Viña Salceda Crianza. On this occasion, Rioja Alavesa, situated right on the northeastern bank of the Ebro River, becomes the focal point on this map that spans 300 km² of clay and limestone soils in the southern part of Álava, in the municipalities of La Dehesilla, El Roquial, and Valdefrailes. Here, since 1969, Viña Salceda has been cultivating some of the oldest vines in the area on its own estate surrounding the winery. More than 50 years have passed since its inception, and everything continues to be crafted traditionally, as always, avoiding herbicides, tilling the land, and pruning manually. Everything is sustainable at Viña Salceda Crianza, even the winemaking, which is carried out in their own facilities with minimal intervention, striving to respect the grape and its quality as much as possible. 
 
Viña Salceda Crianza is harvested and brought to the winery where it is destemmed and directly placed into the tanks where it will spend about five days at a low temperature. During this time, Viña Salceda Crianza will undergo a crucial pre-fermentation maceration to enhance the wine's qualities after fermentation. Once transformed into wine, Viña Salceda Crianza is transferred from the tank and moved to concrete vats where it will also undergo malolactic fermentation. Viña Salceda Crianza will complete its journey with 12 months of aging in wooden barrels.

Viña Salceda Crianza 2021 boasts an enticing aromatic profile dominated by ripe dark fruits such as sloe and plum, complemented by smoky notes and a hint of black pepper. On the palate, it reveals itself as expansive and pleasant, with a generous volume that enhances its appeal. Its balance is remarkable, leaving a lingering impression reminiscent of dark fruit, with nuances of blackcurrant, vanilla, and spices on the finish. A concentrated and well-structured wine.                      
2020

Viña Salceda Crianza 2020 is a red wine with a profound and well-structured character. Bringing it to the nose reveals intense aromas of ripe red fruits such as cherries and raspberries, accompanied by a subtle hint of vanilla and spices, a result of its barrel aging. On the palate, it exhibits a smooth and balanced texture, with rounded tannins and a prolonged finish that leaves a pleasant fruity aftertaste.
2018

Viña Salceda Crianza 2018 is a quintessential red wine. The bouquet is dominated by fruit (sloe, black plum) seamlessly integrated with spicy undertones. On the palate, it is expansive, exuding vibrancy, freshness, and harmony.

 
2011 Wide entrance. A friendly mouth and volume. Well balanced. Good persistence.

Medium layer. Cherry red.

Intense and very fruity. Ripe black fruits dominate, plum, with smoky and spicy notes and black pepper.
2009 Smooth and direct attack. This Rioja is medium-bodied, with the correct amount of fruit, good acidity and ripe tannins. Round and fresh. Medium finish with the correct persistence.

Ruby red colour with maroon rims. Medium-high robe. Clean and bright.

Medium intensity with aromas of black fruit, spices and toasted notes prevailing. Notes of vanilla a a fine degree of liquorice when first opened.
2008 Wide attack and a very nice and smooth mid palate with balanced tasty notes of fruit and oak. Integrated tannins. Lingering finish which leaves an aftertaste of black fruit and spices. A good classic, pleasant and easy-drinking wine.
