About Vinas Mora Andreis

On the Croatian coast, mere metres from the sea and perched upon a bed of limestone rocks, stands Fuerte Andreis, a fortress constructed in the 16th century to withstand the Ottoman invasion. In its shadow, amidst sun, salt, and stone, thrive the vines that give life to Andreis, one of the most distinctive wines from Vinas Mora.

Like the fortress it is named after, this wine speaks of resilience, rootedness, and memory. It originates from a unique vineyard of babić, cultivated in a goblet shape, on terrain as rugged as it is beautiful. These 25-year-old vines face the wind and drought, yet remain steadfast, just as their predecessors did.

Vinas Mora, meaning "wines of the sea," is more than a winery. It is a cooperative of vintners determined to preserve their land, culture, and identity. Spurred by former New York sommelier and distributor, Kreso Petreković, the project brings together local hands, international expertise, and the vision of keeping the landscape alive.

Vinas Mora Andreis is crafted from babić grapes fermented with their skins for 4 to 6 days, alongside a small portion of plavac mali, directly pressed. Forty percent of the wine is aged in used 500-litre oak barrels, with the remainder in fibreglass tanks. It is then blended, bottled unfiltered, with only a minimal dose of sulphur.

Vinas Mora Andreis is a profound, saline, textured red, carrying in its DNA the minerality of the stone, the freshness of the sea, and the strength of those who cultivate it. Like the fortress that once guarded the region, this wine safeguards tradition. It does so by looking to the future, without losing sight of the land that sustains it.

Upon nosing, captivating notes of black fruits such as blackberries and plums emerge, accompanied by a subtle spicy touch that adds warmth without losing its freshness.
