About Viñedos de Páganos Calados del Puntido

In the heart of La Rioja Alavesa, where history and landscape merge in perfect harmony, the underground cellars have been the ideal sanctuary for superb wines for centuries. These rock-hewn wineries not only provide absolute control over temperature and humidity for wine ageing, but also serve as custodians of vinicultural tradition. In homage to these ancient structures, the iconic Eguren family, pioneers in the region's oenology, introduces us to Viñedos de Páganos Calados del Puntido, a wine whose name pays tribute to traditional winemaking practices.

Viñedos de Páganos Calados del Puntido originates from one of the most privileged regions for viticulture: La Rioja Alavesa. Specifically, in the renowned vineyards of Páganos, El Puntido, Carraleza, and La Nieta, celebrated for their perfect microclimate and fertile soil. At an altitude of 600 metres, these lands provide the ideal conditions for cultivating the tempranillo variety, the jewel of the Eguren family.

In the winery, Viñedos de Páganos Calados del Puntido is crafted from 100% destemmed grapes, which are macerated for four days with gentle pump-overs, a process that allows the full potential of the fruit to be extracted. The wine is then transferred to French oak barrels, where malolactic fermentation takes place. Subsequently, it rests for 16 months in barrels, bestowing it with unique complexity and elegance.

Considered the younger sibling of El Puntido, yet with its own distinctive character that captivates those who taste it, Viñedos de Páganos Calados del Puntido is a pure expression of La Rioja Alavesa and a tribute to generations of oenologists who, like the Eguren family, have succeeded in elevating wine to its highest expression.
