About Yoyo La Negra

Yoyo La Negra is a natural red wine made by the Yoyo winery in the French region of Languedoc-Roussillon with the Garnacha Blanca, Garnacha Tinta and Cariñena varieties.

Laurence Manya Krief, nicknamed Yoyo, is a courageous entrepreneur who at 35 years of age decided to follow her heart and swap the stressful world of fashion in Paris for the fascinating world of wine in the village of Montesquieu des Albères, in Banyuls. She has a total of 4 hectares and using farmer’s common sense, she produces some excellent micro productions that are honest and flavoursome.

Yoyo La Negra comes from vines planted on steep terraces overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Because this is one of the most difficult to access wine-growing areas in France, work has to be carried out entirely by hand or, at the most, with the help of a mule. The vines are old (at least 85 years old) and are planted in granitic sandy soils. They have been cultivated using organic agriculture for over 15 years and the harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness.

In the winery, Yoyo La Negra follows a natural winemaking process. Without being destemmed, the grapes undergo a 10-day carbonic maceration and fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts and no oenological additives. Finally, the wine ages in used French oak barrels for 5 months before bottling.

Yoyo La Negra is one of Yoyo’s small and highly sought-after productions. Known as “the Queen of the South” for her great skill in working the vines in Roussillon, she has made this captivating coupage that you will easily fall in love with.

2020

Yoyo La Negra 2020 is a concentrated red wine with a beautiful nose of red fruit accompanied by notes of sea breeze. On the palate it is pure, flavoursome and enveloping. A wine with present acidity, ripe fruit flavours and a long finish that is reminiscent of chocolate.
