Zafeirakis Limniona 2021 unveils an intense bouquet where the essence of fresh strawberries, ripe cherries, and a hint of raspberry are prominent. This fruity and somewhat delicate red wine is enhanced with undertones of black tea, mushrooms, and an amalgam of wild herbs. Upon tasting, its medium body, vibrant acidity, and velvety tannins create a harmonious sensation. The flavors of red berries interweave with earthy and botanical notes, culminating in a lingering aftertaste reminiscent of black tea.

About Zafeirakis Limniona

The Zafeirakis family has sustained an enduring affinity with viticulture in the region of Tyrnavos, Central Greece, for over a century. It is with the advent of Christos Zafeirakis, the fourth generation vintner, that the winery has decidedly pivoted towards the revival of indigenous grape varieties specific to the region. In this endeavor, the focus on the limniona grape stands out, a local variety that has been rejuvenated through biodynamic farming practices. Known for its elegance and vivacity, this grape has been likened to the renowned pinot noir, thereby cementing its status as a gem of Greek viticulture. Christos Zafeirakis has emerged as a connoisseur of this variety, and his flagship wine, Zafeirakis Limniona, is a testament to his expertise and commitment.

Adopting a most sophisticated approach, Zafeirakis Limniona is a monovarietal wine crafted from organically grown vines treated with biodynamic methods, yielding low returns per hectare. Hand-harvested grapes are promptly transported to the winery where minimal intervention winemaking commences. Fermentation occurs naturally with indigenous yeasts, and the wine matures in large oak barrels for 12 months to ensure the fruit's characteristics are not overshadowed.

The outcome is Zafeirakis Limniona, a wine in which Christos has adeptly captured the unique essence of the limniona grape. A supremely elegant and fluid red, boasting an impressive array of red fruit and a profound earthy complexity.
