Abeica Bardallo 2022 is a red wine boasting an enticing bright red hue. About Abeica Bardallo

According to the chronicles of Sebastián de Salamanca, Don Alonso el Católico—who was at that time the King of Asturias—passed through La Rioja, specifically the village of Ábalos. However, during that era, it was not known by this name, but rather as Abeica. This name, lost to history, has been revived by Bodegas Abeica, a family-run enterprise dedicated to reviving tradition, where Abeica Bardallo is crafted.
 
An ancient family plot in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, in the Rioja Alta, situated in one of the highest altitude areas, is the site where this blend of tempranillo, garnacha tinta, viura, garnacha blanca, and torrontés originates. Here, the oenologist Ricardo Fernández is entrusted with striking the right chord to achieve the best, the finest clusters that emerge from the clayey and calcareous, sandy-surfaced soils. Nonetheless, the lack of organic matter is not an issue, as the region's Atlantic climate (with mild winter temperatures and moderate rainfall) aids in the proper ripening of the grapes, achieving unparalleled quality. Furthermore, its location sheltered by the mountain itself facilitates the creation of a very special microclimate, with a significant contrast between day and night temperatures. However, if by chance the grapes do not reach the desired quality, Bodegas Abeica does not hesitate to skip that vintage until something truly worthwhile is achieved.
 
Both Abeica Bardallo and the other wines from this winery are produced using carbonic maceration. This means that after the harvest, where a meticulous selection is made, Abeica Bardallo is fermented with whole clusters, thus achieving great flavour and juiciness. Nevertheless, this detail will not be the only factor determining the quality of Abeica Bardallo, as both pre-fermentation and post-fermentation maceration (lasting about six days) will also be crucial. Following this, Abeica Bardallo will undergo malolactic fermentation in oak barrels, where it will rest for more than half a year.
 
Abeica Bardallo is a classic red, one of the few remaining, but don't let its complexity intimidate you as Abeica Bardallo is also extremely straightforward, very easy to drink. Undoubtedly, one of the finest representatives of the Rioja tradition.
