José Antonio García Viticultor Valtuille Vino de Villa is a red wine produced by José Antonio Garcia Viticultor in Valtuille de Abajo, D.O.Bierzo.
José Antonio García began this project in 2010. After training and working in the restoration industry in Barcelona, he decided to recover the old family vineyards and start to produce wines, with features that were loyal to the terroir and the varieties.
José Antonio García's family has 22 hectares of old vineyards, between 80 and 100 years old, divided into 75 plots. José Antonio also cultivates 4 more hectares of smaller winegrowers of the area. All of these vineyards are located between 500 and 600 metres, influenced by an Atlantic climate that is partly continental and mild.
José Antonio García works with respect towards the environment, performing organic winegrowing, and aiming to produce wines that represent the area, with local varieties, and always loyal to the terroir where they were born.
José Antonio García Viticultor Valtuille Vino de Villa is a wine made from Mencía from vineyards that are between 80 and 100 years old, located at 500 and 600 metres above sea level on clay soils with sandy-loam areas.
Harvesting is carried out manually, selecting the grapes in the vineyard. Once the harvest arrives at the winery 30% of the grapes are stomped with their stems, and the rest are destemmed. They go through a pre-fermentation maceration for 48 hours. After this, they ferment with local yeasts in stainless steel deposits and open barrels at a controlled temperature. When it finishes, they go through post-fermentative maceration for 30 days with spontaneous malolactic fermentation in barrels. This wine is aged for 11 months in 250 and 300-litre French oak barrels. It is bottled without clarifying, stabilising nor filtering.
José Antonio García Viticultor Valtuille Vino de Villa is an intense, balanced and fresh wine. A very elegant and defined wine where the fruit and the mineral notes of the terroir are in the spotlight.
