ARPEPE Sassella Riserva Ultimi Raggi 2018 is a red wine with intense aromas of ripe cherries and blackberries, accompanied by hints of oak and a subtle reminiscence of dried flowers and tobacco. On the palate, it presents as robust and juicy, offering concentrated fruit flavours, with distinctive notes of tobacco, pepper, and a hint of soy sauce. About ARPEPE Sassella Riserva Ultimi Raggi

In the quintessential Amarone style, the reds of Valtellina are wines crafted from dried grapes. The most traditional method involves harvesting the grapes and drying them on racks within the wineries themselves. However, some choose to deviate from the conventional path, like Arturo Pelizzatti, who contemplated doing things differently. Why not dry the grapes directly in the vineyard? A truly brilliant idea. 
 
ARPEPE Sassella Riserva Ultimi Raggi was born in 1999 as a result of Arturo's experiment at an altitude of 600 metres, right at the upper limit of the Sassella region. In this area, known as Ere, the harvest is conducted a week later than in the rest of the region, achieving grape dehydration. This is based on the significant temperature fluctuations between day and night, which cause the skins to toughen, concentrating the sugars. Just days before the first snowfalls, at the end of November, the harvest is finally carried out, yielding a powerful, robust, and concentrated nebbiolo, capable of withstanding all that is demanded of it in the winery. 
 
ARPEPE Sassella Riserva Ultimi Raggi is gently pressed, allowed to macerate, and ferments, with maceration continuing in large barrels for at least 70 days. Patience must once again play a role in the production of ARPEPE Sassella Riserva Ultimi Raggi, as there are still 34 months of ageing ahead. This process takes place in Il Buon Consiglio, an underground cellar constructed by the company in the 1970s.

Ar.Pe.Pe. Sassella Riserva Ultimi Raggi 2016 is a consistent and very deep wine, it is complex, with a blend of aromas, flavours and nuances. Quite a display! The nose reveals leather, tobacco, red fruits, pepper, dried mushrooms and very concentrated fruit. The palate is intense, with notes of coffee, cocoa, spices, soybeans and salt. Tasty and bright acidity. Silky and elegant.
