About Áster Finca El Otero

In 1989, when the La Rioja Alta group decided to establish a new winery in the DO Ribera del Duero, they did something simple yet fundamental: they listened. They listened to the local farmers and viticulturists, custodians of ancestral knowledge, who pointed out the parcels of highest quality. Among them stands out the El Otero estate, a vineyard located in Anguix (Burgos) on sandy-loam soils with low fertility at an altitude of 830 metres, where each vine seems to breathe calmly. Here, Áster Finca El Otero is born, a high-end red wine that is only released in the finest vintages.
 
Made from tinta del país, the queen grape of the Ribera del Duero, each cluster is carefully tended and handpicked, respecting the natural rhythm of the vines to the fullest. Only the finest bunches reach the winery, where alcoholic fermentation begins in stainless steel tanks, followed by an extended ageing process in French oak barrels. During this period, malolactic fermentation and weekly bâtonnage of the lees allow the wine to gain body, texture, and complexity, while time reveals all that Áster Finca El Otero has to offer.
 
In the glass, Áster Finca El Otero presents itself as intense and elegant, with ripe black fruit, delicate spices, and perfectly integrated ageing. A Ribera del Duero of great character that confirms when the vineyard speaks with such strength, the wise thing to do is to listen... and let it entice you to another glass.

Áster Finca El Otero 2019 is a red wine from Ribera del Duero that stands out for its balance and moderate body. On the nose, it reveals intense notes of black fruits such as blackberries and plums, complemented by a subtle spicy touch. On the palate, it offers a creamy texture and a complex structure, with soft and well-integrated tannins. The barrel aging imparts hints of vanilla and chocolate, resulting in an intense wine with remarkable concentration. Ideal for those who appreciate reds with character and depth.

Tasty, with very good structure and balance. Notable presence of tannins but polished. Intense black fruit.
Long aftertaste with mineral, black liquorice and spicy memories.

Beautiful cherry red, attractive on the eye, with a deep, intense purple border.

On the nose it is very expressive. Predominance of ripened black fruit combined with spicy and balsamic notes. Pleasant memories of ageing in the barrel with smooth toasted tones, toffee and mocha.
